The senior years of primary school are a time for students to enjoy being leaders of the school. We encourage our students to take leadership roles in and outside the classroom such as being school captains, house captains, arts captains and being a ‘buddy’ to Prep students. We promote learner agency in all areas of the curriculum so that they have a stake in what they learn and how they learn.
We model, discuss and practise writing a range of text types, and use comprehension strategies to further our literacy learning. We also focus on word investigations and vocabulary building. We continue to build on mathematics skills and understandings and explore a range of strategies for solving mathematical questions. Each term our BQT (Big Question Time) topic helps to broaden thinking with topics such as how to run a successful business. In STEM sessions, students are challenged to use their critical and creative thinking skills to solve open-ended problems. One of the many tools that students use to assist with their learning are iPads. Students are required to bring their own device from home.
