Library

The Newport Lakes Primary School Library is a welcoming and engaging space where students can discover new books, develop their reading skills and foster a love of literature.

During our library lessons, students learn how to browse, select, borrow and return books. They are supported to make “just-right” reading choices, explore new authors and genres, and extend their reading interests.

Learning in the Library

Library lessons are tailored to students’ year levels and support the development of a range of reading, literacy and library skills.

In the lower years, students learn about caring for books, library routines and expectations, the different sections of the library, the parts of a book, and the features of fiction and non-fiction texts.

In the middle and upper years, students continue to develop their library skills by exploring genres, locating books, discussing texts, making informed reading choices and developing a deeper understanding of fiction and non-fiction text.

More Than Just Books!

Throughout the year, students can take part in exciting activities such as Book Week and explore significant events in our community and around the world, including sporting events and cultural celebrations.

Lunchtime in the Library

The library is also open during lunchtime, providing students with a welcoming space to:
