Art

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

PABLO PICASSO

The Art program at NLPS is a fun, exciting, and challenging opportunity for students to think, create, express themselves and ultimately learn in a way that is unique to the visual arts. The Art room is well equipped with a kiln, printing press and large screen TV, giving students a wide range of opportunities to learn art making and critical thinking skills. Projects include:

Ceramics, Intaglio and relief printing, drawing, painting, viewing and analysing artworks

The program is designed to develop and advance students’ understanding of the creative process as they learn to think and work as artists. Students are taught to plan and create their artworks by journaling, researching, and brainstorming ideas. Students also learn good studio practice and safety as they progress from Prep to Year 6.

Lunchtime Activities: The Art room is open on Tuesdays and Fridays at lunchtime to any students who wish to spend time drawing and/or making. Students of all year levels are welcome to visit, and often work together to help each other.

Art Show: The Art Show is a whole school exhibition of student artwork. The event is held every second year and runs for four days, allowing family and friends to visit the exhibition before and after school.

Our new kiln

On Wednesday 20th February 2019 the much wanted kiln arrived and was installed along with a safety barrier in the Art room.  Students are now be able to create ceramic pieces and have them fired at school. With the new kiln, the Art program will be even better!

A very big thank you to Parents Club for funding the kiln!
