Year 3/4

The middle school at Newport Lakes is an exciting place to be. We have settled in to the year, and all of our students are working hard to achieve and exceed their enormous potential. In Year 3/4, students are given numerous opportunities to have agency in their learning, and we build upon the skills and dispositions that we will need to be successful learners and community members in the future.

We aim to engage students in meaningful learning about our world, and provide students with experiences that will be remembered fondly for years to come. A big part of the step up to the middle school is the development of independence and our students’ ability to self-manage their learning through goal setting. We want our students to develop their ability to critically research, effectively collaborate and respectfully communicate with each other. We are one community, and we need to look after each other.

There are a number of events that are specific to being in Year 3/4. Students have the opportunity to attend their first school camp (Term 4), complete NAPLAN for the first time (Term 2), and work collaboratively to write and produce their own short films (Term 2). Along with all of the learning students will engage in through daily Literacy and Numeracy sessions, we also have a strong focus on our Big Question Time, Health and Science curriculum.
